What to write on a wedding invitation
Short, personal lines and clear practical details. How to find the wording and the tone of voice that sound like the two of you, with a sample.

A good wedding invitation tells a guest at once who is inviting them, what the invitation is for, and where and when you are celebrating. The personal touch comes from a few sentences of your own. You do not have to fit every feeling onto the first page.
Start with a genuine invitation
Traditional English wording is often in the third person (“request the pleasure of your company”), which sounds formal. Speaking as yourselves is warmer and every bit as correct. “We would be delighted to have you with us as we get married” is a lovely, simple line. For something more relaxed: “We’re getting married, and it wouldn’t be the same without you!” Choose an address you would use out loud.
We would be delighted to have you with us as we get married. Please join us to celebrate our wedding.

It is worth giving the full address and the detailed programme in a separate section, so the invitation itself stays light and airy.

If a clean, understated tone suits you, have a look at Handmade Paper; if you prefer a romantic, painted world, try Golden Grove.
Give your own story some room
A shared memory says more than a long quotation. Write down how you met, the moment you both love to remember, and why you are glad to celebrate with the people you love. Three to five sentences are enough for a lovely beginning.
Make the practical requests clear
For replies, give a deadline (more on that in how to ask for RSVPs). Say plainly what to wear: “black tie” or “smart casual” can mean different things to different people, so one short line helps. If you ask about accommodation, promise only what you have really arranged. The invitation, the programme and the practical information are much easier to read in separate sections.
Write the date out in full, as in “18 September 2027”, so nobody has to wonder which number is the day and which is the month. Every Envelopio template comes with ready-made suggested wording that you can start from and rewrite freely. And before you send, it is worth going through these seven points.
